Safety Culture

We can provide you with a roadmap for continuous improvement, reducing risks and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Process Safety Lifecycle

Industrial environments present unique risks to the safety and well-being of employees, the surrounding community and the environment. Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) play an essential role by providing a layer of protection around industrial process systems. Their purpose is to identify a specific hazard when predetermined set points are exceeded and to bring the process back to a “safe state”.

Smartone offers a full range of SIS design and implementation services. From building new systems to studying legacy systems and recommending the most impactful safety changes, our team can help ensure your facility meets regulatory requirements and follows the latest industry best practices.

Smartone conducts hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and layer of protection analysis (LOPA), takes part in design reviews, calculates the probability of failure on demand (PFD), and performs criticality analysis and testing on new systems. We help our clients design, install and maintain “fail-safe” control systems for the complete safety instrumented function (SIF): logic solvers, final elements, sensors and other control equipment independent of the basic process control system, to ensure that SIS functionality is not compromised.

Safety Compliance

The General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), requires every employer to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards that cause or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm. This general statement of responsibility is essential for OSHA compliance; however, new and changing safety standards leave it unclear how to meet specific requirements, especially in the process industries.

Establishing a Process Safety Management (PSM) program for compliance requires experts qualified in the international safety standards recognized by OSHA, including IEC 61508, IEC 61511 / ISA 84 and IEC 62061. Beyond establishing a PSM program, maintaining and testing safety systems and practices must be an ongoing process to ensure that safety processes and systems perform as intended throughout their operating life.

Process Safety Training

Process Safety for Non-Process-Safety Engineers: This training explains the concepts behind process safety for those who are not familiar with them. It explains the layers of protection and the consequences of making changes or skipping maintenance.
